INSTALLATION FOR THE COLLECTION OF EXCREMENTS AND RESIDUES FROM
OF BIRDS AND CHIROPTERS IN BUILDINGS
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an installation for the collection of excrement and waste from birds and chiroptera in buildings, intended to prevent the fall of such waste and excrement on the building itself, in areas of the same located at lower levels, and even over the public thoroughfare, thus offering a satisfactory solution against adverse effects on health, safety of persons and as a means of building protection.
Background of the invention
The current cities and towns have become more or less extensive areas in which a catalog of increasingly large wild species has found key resources for their survival (food, absence of predators, nesting-refuge sites, etc.).
As it can not be otherwise, some of these species of birds and bats can cause discomfort for their nesting or shelter customs in buildings. In addition to the pigeons that usually inhabit roofs and hollows, swallows and common airplanes are typically urban fauna that buildings use to locate their nests and this sometimes leads to health, safety and hygiene problems, but in return, many of these species offer us free ecosystem services as useful as controlling harmful insects such as mosquitoes, flies or moths. For example, the swallow usually eats about 850 insects per day, that is, about 150 grams of insects per day, which is equivalent to about 55 kilos of insects per year, or what is the same, 310,250 mosquito-flies for each swallow.
The main nuisance is the dropping of excrement on facades and windows that causes health problems, in addition to the deterioration due to corrosion of windowsills, windows as well as the paintings, bricks or stones of the facades and walls. Another inconvenience caused by large colonies of birds is the fall of insects and mites that can cause health problems for people.
The common plane (Delichon urbica) builds its mud nests in the shape of a hemisphere under the eaves of the buildings. It is common for some of these nests to collapse during their construction and can cause damage to people or objects on which mud fragments can fall. On the other hand, each couple can get 3 posts with between 3 and 5 chickens each, which produces a huge amount of excrement that the chickens expel through the small windows of their nests, from where they drop their dejections.
This species has co-evolved to take advantage of the eaves of the buildings where it builds its nests, it is also colonial and phyllographic, so it usually forms colonies that are growing every year producing large amounts of excrement mainly during the breeding season.
These small insect birds, as well as their nests are protected by European directives, as well as by national and regional environmental protection laws that expressly prohibit hunting and eliminating the nests of this species, despite this, the demolition of their nests due to the harmful effects on health and safety that they may entail.
In addition to these prohibitions, awareness of the protection of nature increases every day and urban biodiversity has become one of the indicators of the quality of life in different cities.
At the moment the solution to the dirt produced by the birds in the facades is usually the demolition of the nests with or without authorization to, later, place dissuasive systems for the nesting or the presence of the birds or bats. In some cases a flat horizontal structure is placed under the nests that collects part of the dirt but does not prevent the fall of insects and also requires periodic maintenance and cleaning.
This structure can also serve to prevent the dropping of droppings of other types of birds such as pigeons from cornices or levels higher than that located.
For the protection of buildings against the aforementioned problems, it is also known the provision of protective screens, of laminar structure in the form of mesh, that allow the vision of the building but prevent the entry of birds.
A device for the collection of bat droppings, coming from bat ditches, is known from Canadian patent CA2537722, which consists of a receptacle of water permeable walls, open at its upper base and of decreasing section towards the bottom, where it has an outlet This device is designed as a means to collect bat droppings for later use as fertilizer. However, it is not usable as a protective means of areas or lower surfaces, since its walls are permeable to water, it does not prevent the card of rainwater, with dissolved substances from the excrement. In addition, due to the configuration of the receptacle, the device is only applicable under areas of maximum concentration of bats, such as nesting points.
Description of the invention
The present invention aims to solve the problems set forth, by means of an installation designed to serve as a means of protection against the dropping of droppings and residues from birds and bats that nest or usually perch in buildings, without having to remove the nests or prevent Your presence.
The installation of the invention comprises a corrugated structure, with impermeable walls, which is open along its upper base and has a drain located adjacent to one of its end sections. The corrugated structure is arranged under the nesting area or usual presence of birds or chiroptera, fixed to the facade of the building, with a slight longitudinal downward inclination towards the drain mentioned above.
On the described corrugated structure, in the highest zone of the same, a conduit from a water supply source located at a higher level flows. This supply source may consist of a water collection gutter of the building itself where the installation of the invention is mounted, in a water container, in a conduit from the sanitary water installation, etc.
The corrugated structure can also be provided with external lower protectors that prevent nesting under the corrugated structure.
According to a possible embodiment, the longitudinal wall of the corrugated structure furthest from the building ends superiorly in an protruding longitudinal wing, which is inclined outward in an upward direction, forming an outstanding screen for collecting rainwater that will be Poured over the corrugated structure.
The aforementioned longitudinal wing may have protruding babillas that serve as a deterrent for the positioning of the birds.
The droppings and waste that are collected by the corrugated structure will be carried away by rainwater or the water supplied through the conduit that flows into the highest area of the corrugated structure.
Brief description of the drawings
To complement the description that is being made and in order to help a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, according to an example of its realization, a set of drawings is attached as an integral part of said description. Illustrative and not limiting:

Detailed description of one embodiment
Figure 1 shows an installation for the collection of droppings and waste from birds and / or chiroptera from a nesting area (1) located, for example, under the eave (2) of a building.
The commented installation is composed of a corrugated structure (3), open longitudinally at its upper base, which runs below the nesting area (1) with slight longitudinal inclination in one direction. The corrugated structure (3) is fixed to the building by any system.
The corrugated structure (3) can be U-shaped, with a curved bottom, with a rectangular section, with a curved or flat bottom, with an angular section, etc., and will be made of a waterproof and resistant material, for example of material plastic or metallic nature.
In the area located at a lower height, the corrugated structure has a drain (4), while at the opposite end, in the area located at a higher height, a duct (5) flows from a water supply source located at greater height and that in the example shown is constituted by a gutter (6) that collects the rainwater fallen on the roof (7).
With the constitution described, the droppings and residues from nesting are collected by the corrugated structure (3), preventing their fall on the ground or areas of the building located below the nesting area (1). The droppings and waste are stored in the corrugated structure (3), until they are dragged along said structure, to the drain (4), by rainwater that from the gutter (6) is poured into the area of more height of the corrugated structure (3), through the duct (5).
Figure 2 shows a possible variant of execution in which the outer wall of the corrugated structure (3), the furthest from the building in which it is mounted, ends superiorly in a longitudinal wing (8) that protrudes from the core (2) and will serve as a screen for the collection of rainwater, which will be led to said structure and will serve as a means to drag the excrement and waste collected, to the drain (4). This embodiment is suitable when there is no rainwater collection gutter or other water stream supply system that can be used for periodic cleaning of the corrugated structure.
Figure 3 shows a grooved structure (3) arranged under a zone of habitual presence (9) of birds (10).
Figure 4 shows a corrugated structure (3) similar to that shown in Figure 2, with an outstanding longitudinal wing (8), which is carrying rods (11) that prevent the presence of birds.
Figure 5 shows a grooved structure (3 ') of square section, with a flat bottom, under which a protection (12) is arranged to prevent bird nesting.
With the described constitution, the corrugated structure allows the collection and accumulation of most of the droppings and waste produced by the birds, also allowing the circulation of water along it to remove the waste, thus forming a self-cleaning structure.
5 The corrugated structure can be made of any waterproof material and internal smooth finish, for example of plastic material, folded sheet, etc., which will be fixed to the wall by any system, for example those used for fixing gutters rainwater collection. In addition, the corrugated structure can be protected by special paints that prevent bird nesting.
10 As already indicated, the corrugated structure can be U-shaped, U-shaped, with curved or flat bottom, with symmetrical longitudinal walls, of equal length and inclination, or asymmetric longitudinal walls, to which the embodiment would correspond of figure 2.
The corrugated structure can pour the water under vacuum, through the drain (4), or channel it to a lower level, by means of a pipe that pours water and waste, for example to a garden or sewer network.
